What an honour I must say it was to be asked to photograph Troy Cassar-Daley his brand new album ‘Freedom Ride’ not only because the album is amazing and because I have been playing drums for him for the past 7 years, but because I knew we understood each other creatively and I was extremely excited to sink my teeth into this shoot.
After a lot of preparation, planning and organising I drive from Newcastle up to Brisbane for the shoot excited and looking forward to the next couple of days. We started off the day shooting Troy with a beautiful old 1945 Ford bus from Watts bus and coach Woolloongabba. She oozed so much charm and kick started the shoot with total creative charisma, it was going to be a great day. We then had a break for lunch at The Powerhouse Brisbane before continuing the shoot there. We did’t know it at the time but this is the venue we would find our album cover shot.
Day two we started at North Pine Country Park Petrie the star to of the shoot there apart from Troy were the 300 year old Moreton Bay Fig trees, truly spectacular. Daybro village was the next stop were we had come across an old butter factory when looking for locations. Rox (Troy’s manager) and I had to hold ourselves back from buying out the antique store Bohemian Dècor that owned the butter factory. These guys could not be more accommodating, great store if your in the area check it out.
